WORK EXPERIENCE
June 1, 2008 – December 2008: Associate, Online Editor at Cities Go Green magazine.
Wrote and researched stories for the web on a daily basis, gathered graphics from sources and photographers, and copy edited material for print issues. Managed
www.citiesgogreen.com: updated our CSS template, installed a headline reader, RSS feed, Google Analytics and Webmaster tools, built an event list, developed a readers’ input page called What Works, added subscription pages, published advertisements, produced a podcast, and wrote Joomla interface manuals
 
February 2007 – June 2008: Village Books
Presented authors to crowds up to forty, updated customer database and inventory, uploaded web content, designed and edited images in-store and online, and sold a ton of books.

September 2007 – June 2008: Associate Editor The Planet Magazine
Copy edited stories into refined, publishable articles. Worked with designers, writers and other editors to mold cohesive, award winning, magazines.
 
January - February 2008: Reporter The Foothills Gazette
Deadline reporter for Whatcom County’s bi-weekly newspaper. Attended Whatcom County Council and Planning Department meetings and interviewed politicians, public servants, septic regulators, and scientists.
 
 
 
 
EDUCATION
Bachelor of the Arts Degree from Fairhaven College of Interdisciplinary Studies: Concentration in Environmental Convergence Journalism. Studied Arabic, Islamic Studies and studied sustainable development and urban planning in Greece and comparative politics in Mexico.

Lived for eleven weeks in Kefalonia, Greece. Participated in the first of nine collaborations between American students with a small Greek community determined to rebuild the lost city of Farsa in a "traditional and sustainable" way.
 
 
 
 
ACTIVITIES
April 2009: Began intensive Arabic study at Bourguiba Living Languages Institute in Tunis, Tunisia.

March 2008: Accepted award on behalf of Planet Magazine at the Society of Professional Journalists' Brave New Media World conference in Portland, OR.

September 2007: Attended Society of Environmental Journalists 17th annual conference in Palo Alto, CA.

March 2007: Volunteered for two weeks in New Orleans, LA. Shot, edited, and produced a 23-minute movie about the environmental legacy of Hurricane Katrina called “Toxic Gumbo.”

August 2003: Attended Hiroshima Peace Conference in Japan, and worked with students from Pakistan, India, Japan and Atlanta.
